Pythons Score 6 Tries at Bridlington
Harrogate Pythons 1st XV travelled to face Bridlington for their first ever fixture with the East Yorkshire club. Will Clough stepped in as lead coach for MacKay and Liley who were taking a well deserved week off.
The home side opened the scoring with an early penalty, 3-0. The Pythons were quickly back into their stride with Jackson Hobson feeding off a great pass from Henry Hazlem to challenge the line. Held out by some firm tackling the ball was recycled and spun wide to Bailey Bromberg using his pace to elude the tacklers before delivering a perfect pass to Saul Adshead to score in the corner, 3-5. Jed Carr kicked a penalty 3-8 matched by his opposite number 6-8. The Pythons stronger pack then dominated the game with Will Milnes, Sam Rowntree and Jack Hall keeping play in the home 22. Some great chances were created but overeagerness meant the final pass was dropped or deemed slightly forward. Finally Hobson broke the defensive line to score in the corner 6-13. With minutes to half time a well drilled line out from the home side leads to a try, 11-13 half time.
Straight from the kick off to the half an interception try for the home team under the posts, 18-13. The Pythons get back into their phases with Hugh Tatlow and George Booth driving play back into the home 22. A clear break from Max Sharp in the centre and he puts Adshead, diving, into the corner for his second, 18-18. Hobson is quickly back on the score sheet with his second, 18-25. The home team land a penalty 21-25. Bromberg uses his pace to round the defence diving in the corner 21-30 with Jordan Payne rounding off the game under the posts 21-37, full time.
After the game Captain Hugh Tatlow said, “This was a bit messy in places which meant we missed some opportunities to cross the line, something we need to sort at training. As I said in the huddle at the end of the game we just needed to remember how to win which we did in the second half with four tries. Our fitness meant we played for 80 minutes which is down to the players hard work as well as our brilliant coaching and therapy team”.
With Wath losing to Hullensians, Harrogate Pythons secure 5th spot in the league. This coming Saturday the Pythons travel to 4th placed Hullensians hoping to repeat their last performance.
