Pirates took on Yarnbury 3rds on a fine afternoon for rugby down at The Jim Saynor Ground with a good crowd enjoying both the weather and what was in most parts, an open and free flowing game played in good spirit.
Pirates took the honours with a 39-6 win, but the final score hid the effort and tenacity of the Yarnbury boys, who battled strongly throughout.
It was great to see such a strong squad of starters and finishers for the 2’s; all of whom played their part. Congratulations goes to Jack Hall and Danny Adams; both scoring debut tries. Justin Ross talked long and hard afterwards of his two tries scored although the referee’s whistle both times meant his name never made the score sheet . . .
Nathan Grainger and Gareth (Zippy) Drane provided great service throughout. Sam Beagrie and George Booth had good spells as they work their way back from injury, but my moment of the match was the last minute link-up between Jon (Wiggo) Wiggins and Zippy he received a back handed pass from Zippy as he streaked over the line for a try in the top corner . . . Wiggo’s look of disbelief as the touch Judge’s flag went up for foot in touch was a moment to behold! I was sure he wasn’t in touch from my position 40 yards away looking into the sun on the opposite touchline lol!
A most enjoyable afternoon thankyou Gents and thanks also to Si Wormersley for some great pictures (NB: potential sponsors take note – Look at the coverage our banners are getting . . . It’s time your company had one too!).
