West Park Leeds RUFC 0 – 32 Harrogate Pythons RUFC
Thursday 25th August and The Pythons visit West Park Leeds for their second pre season fixture. With Coach Bird back from his honeymoon The Pythons pack were quick to take control. Marcus Fotherby was quick to charge down a relieving kick from a 5m line out and Will Butler gathers to touch down. 0-5.
The Pythons were quickly back on the offensive with strong runs from Ed Challis and Nathan Wakes. An attacking 5m scrum and Hugh Tatlow picks up at number 8 and drives over. 0-10.
With evergreen Gareth Drane controlling play from scrum half and a series of controlled mauls Jed Carr floats a perfectly timed pass for Tim Evans to break through the defence and touch down. 0-15.
A series of penalties bought WPL back into the game for a brief period with some outstanding defence from Joe Bentham and Sam Beagrie. Butler got discipline back and the Pythons retained and recycled the ball much better. Some great rucking from Steve Smith on half way, Drane feeds Carr who straightens beyond the 10m line, feeds Tatlow who rounds the defence to score his second next to the posts. Liam Kernoghan adds the extras 0-22.
