Despite the continued restrictions on ‘all things normal’, the Pythons family have certainly not sat back on their laurels with several projects undertaken at The Jim Saynor Ground during recent months, all instigated and executed (socially distanced etc.) by many member volunteers fueled by the Pythons spirit:
- Rugbyforce Weekend:
On the 5th September and just prior to our outdoor and socially distanced AGM, many of the squad flexed their DIY muscles to achieve fantastic results both in the storage container (tidied, re-shelved and all training equipment checked and cleaned) and in changing rooms too (painted and overhead shelves made and installed). Top effort Chaps – It all looks great!
- Pitch Maintenance:
Once again, we bought 80 tonnes of sand and following some deep aeration, the players turned out in force and social distancing meant that the sand was spread very evenly indeed. And walking the pitch now, we can see the benefits of improved drainage already.
This is ongoing and we will repeat this task in coming years to improve the playing surface quality and drainage. Thanks to all involved!
- Shirt Sponsors Board:
With our splendid new playing shirts ready for rugby, the committee wanted to further recognise the generosity of our shirt sponsors who are supporting us or the next 3-years with an duel purpose advertising board on the clubhouse wall.
The board clearly shows the names and logos of our shirt sponsors as well as that of the DonElec Group who kindly funded this board (Many thanks to David Wheat for this!). We’ve located this near the changing room doors and we’ll be using this as a backdrop for all squad, committee and officers ‘head and shoulder’ shots for the website.
- Scoreboard Refurbishment:
Our ‘Manual Non-Digital Technology Points Recording Device’ that’s often expertly manned by our co-opted Membership Secretary Vic Kimeny, has had a much needed face-lift (that’s the scoreboard not Vic!).
Before:
After:
Thanks to the generous donation by the Northern Energy team, our scoreboard has now resplendently been decked out with its new graphics and we can’t wait to have the opportunity to display some winning Pythons scores when conditions eventually allow.
- Sponsor’s Banners:
We’ve an ever-growing list of sponsors and supporters contributing to the Pythons family and we’ve now added and installed 6 new banners alongside our existing ones. The display looks fantastic from the clubhouse and touchline, but we’ve still got plenty of space for more and if you know of a company who’d like to display alongside these, check out our current sponsorship opportunities [HERE].

Each of these five items are modest steps on their own, but collectively have made a huge different to our pitchside environment and we look forward to sharing more good times with our members, players supporters and sponsors as soon as the restrictions and sensibility allow.
Keep safe and well everyone!
